What is Nanban Shrimp?
The official name of Nanban shrimp is “Hokkoku akaebi” (red shrimp). It is generally called “ama-ebi” (sweet shrimp), but in Niigata, it is called “nanban-ebi” because its color and shape resemble red pepper (nanban).
