A traditional Japanese New Year decoration.

As a traditional decoration for the door it will let the luck in and keep the bad out.
Therefore it is necessary to bring it to a temple for the spiritual blessing which was already done in the famous Sanoyakuyokedaishi so you don't have to go to a temple any more.
